Our Voice: Journey to Best Binaurals

Hi, I’m Lauren, the co-founder of Best Binaurals. On behalf of my partner Marcel—the other half of this dynamic duo—I’m excited to share our story with you.

A Deep Rooted Passion

To understand how important music is to me it has always been more than just a collection of notes—it’s a language, a companion, a part of my soul.

Growing up, I played the clarinet in the school orchestra, reaching levels that challenged and inspired me. I achieved a Grade 5 with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). It involved hours of reading and reciting sheet music, scales and arpeggios and attending rehearsals for public performances.

Going Back to My Roots

To give you a little backstory, I was born into a loving family in a small town called Ipswich, in the UK.

I had a wonderful childhood and I recall many hazy summer evenings spent building dens and catching tadpoles in the local woodland area with friends from my neighbourhood,—a time when dusk was my natural alarm clock.

I grew up around a wide range of music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, from Mowtown to Madonna, you name it. ABBA would often get blared out of the speakers which my Mum and I would sing along to whilst I watched her do the ironing.

I moved to the UAE with my parents when I was 14 (2004), following an opportunity for a better life inspired by my Father—a hard-working and courageous man whose qualities I deeply admire and strive to emulate.

10 years later in 2014 I moved to the beautiful Mediterranean island of Malta in search of a new adventure. I fully, satisfied the explorer in me, soaked up the sun and made friends I consider family, and it was here that the story really began to unfold…(I’m getting to it.)

The Music Maverick

Marcel’s was born in London and grew up with his beloved Mother, spending many years going back and forth to Malta—where his parents originated.

This Star Was fan also had a very happy childhood. Marcel has always been fascinated by how things work. As a kid, he’d take apart computers just to figure out how to reassemble them including building a full-sized R2-D2 which he later sold to the creators of Star Wars themselves.

His journey began in tech, earning features in magazines for coding games, before transitioning to the music industry, where he made his mark.

In the ’90s, he found success on the charts in both the UK and Japan, and went on to own multiple recording studios, launch several record labels, (and even end up in a few music videos.)

By the ’80s, he was deeply immersed in the vibrant raving scene. Amid the music, lights, and free-spirited nights, one thing remained constant—his passion for pushing boundaries and embracing innovation, whether in tech or music.

His passion for music is just as deeply rooted. He played the steel pans in school, plays guitar, keyboard and comes alive when he’s layering sound samples to compose house tracks, and as much as music shaped our early years, little did we know our relentless curiosity and entrepreneurial spirits were about to lead us down the road we would later find ourselves.

Love Lockdown

Here’s where the serendipity comes in: Little did I know at the time that Marcel was a professional music producer with over 15 years of experience. (Seriously, what are the odds?)

When we met in Malta during the first lockdown, it was pure chance—or fate, depending on how you look at it. A quarantine situation extended his stay, and by the time it was over, we couldn’t imagine being apart.

A big move to London and one beautiful baby girl later, (now two and a half years old,)—it’s safe to say that we are both grateful for the cards life has dealt us.

Creative Curiosity

Did you know we only perceive about 0.008% of reality? I mean, we’re practically blindfolded in a universe bursting with possibilities.

Marcel and myself are seekers by nature—constantly questioning, exploring, and challenging the edges of what we know. Our fascination with the unseen—whether it’s electromagnetic waves, atomic structures, or the fact that Wi-Fi works at all—has led us down some wild rabbit holes. I’m the kind of person who walks into a room and thinks, “Wow, I can feel the energy in here”, and then immediately starts wondering if that energy can be measured in kilojoules. (Spoiler: it can’t, but wouldn’t that be cool?)

Sound Therapy Discovery

Things took a turn innocently enough with YouTube as I was searching for ways to help me relax, when I stumbled upon deep sleep hypnosis and frequency healing tracks – (attached with some pretty outlandish claims, I might add). I’m a natural skeptic, so when I heard people claiming sound therapy could heal everything from anxiety to a bad hair day, I was like ‘yeah, right’, especially with no logic-backed explanations.

At the time, I didn’t know what sound therapy was, but I quickly realized binaural beats and sound therapy would have a profound effect on me. They helped me sleep better, focus more easily, and even access meditative states with less resistance.

Getting the Feels

My first sound bath experience was unforgettable—a single sound bowl sent shivers cascading through my entire being, a chemical symphony of love, joy, and warmth.

It felt like rediscovering an old favorite song that hits you squarely in the heart, flooding you with nostalgia and euphoria all at once.

This ‘sensation’ of physical healing was unlike anything I’d felt before and I couldn’t shake the idea that something profoundly bigger was at play here.

Curiosity turned into obsession. I dove into the works of pioneers like Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary, Deepak Chopra, and Dr. Joe Dispenza, devouring every podcast, book, and study I could find.

I wanted to understand the science—the “why” behind the “wow” and begun believing that maybe there was something to this whole “sound as medicine” thing, even if the scientific world hadn’t fully caught up yet.

Control Freak

That’s when my entrepreneurial mind lit up. I realized that if these sounds were transforming my life, they might have the same impact on others. But instead of just consuming these tools, I wanted to produce them. I wanted to take control of the source. Not because I’m a control freak (okay, maybe a little), but to ensure that every frequency and every tone, was authentic and intentional, especially after learning the power of intention.

I also knew I wanted to become an educator in the field, as knowledge about sound therapy is essential to cultivating its optimal impact in the way I believe it was intended. Sharing insights into the power of sound therapy served a valuable purpose, and I felt it had become my duty to do so.

Personal Growth Journey

Over the past few years, I have dedicated myself to personal growth and self-improvement. My goal is to serve people at the highest level in my production work and that can only start with me. I took a sound therapy practitioner’s course to deepen my understanding of how frequencies interact with the human body and tested every track on myself, observing how different sounds impacted my focus, relaxation, and overall well-being.

I’ve joined my local yoga community which feels like ‘home’, — the Community Yoga Project in London ran by the lovely Matthias, (photo below). I continue to work closely—with amazing meditation teachers, spiritual therapists, breathwork instructors, and business coaches. Continuously striving to align our efforts to meet the needs of those who can help amplify the impact of our sound therapy tracks is paramount if we want to make a difference.

Final Words

Through all of this, I’ve learned two things. First, sound therapy isn’t just about the ears—it’s about the soul (so, listen carefully).  And second, life has a funny way of connecting the dots, even when you don’t realize you’re drawing them.

So here we are, creating music that doesn’t just sound good but helps raise your vibration. Because in a world where we only perceive a fraction of reality, we figured we owe it to ourselves to make that fraction as beautiful as possible.
